Frequently need to compare "to-dates," for example, 8/1 - 8/19 this year vs. 8/1 - 8/19 last year. You can explicitly declare date ranges in an insight in custom dashboards, but "this month" gives you skewed results, for example 8/1 - 8/31 vs. 8/1 - 8/19. Requested for week-to-date, month-to-date, quarter-to-date, year-to-date. Page-wide filters work, but this can be better.
