When reviewing financial reports, account numbers are hyperlinked to the related General Ledger account. While helpful in concept, the current Account Activity screen limits the usefulness of that drilldown.
For example, if a report shows $216 in Office Expenses, clicking the account should allow me to quickly identify the transaction(s) that make up that amount. Currently, the Account Activity screen only displays summarized activity by fiscal period. To identify the underlying transactions, I have to:
Select an individual month.
Open that month's activity.
Apply filters for the applicable grant, project, or other dimension.
Repeat the process for every month that may contain activity.
This makes what should be a simple drilldown unnecessarily time-consuming, particularly for organizations that use projects and grants extensively.
Ideally, the drilldown would also retain the report context. If the $216 relates to a specific project or grant, those filters should carry through so only the relevant transactions are displayed.
Currently, identifying those transactions requires reviewing activity month by month or leaving the drilldown and running a separate report. This defeats much of the purpose of linking the account in the first place.
Bottom line, the hyperlink should provide a true drilldown from the reported balance to the underlying transactions, while retaining the applicable report filters.
