Add a standard report in Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT that produces a Net Asset Rollforward by project, including:
Beginning balance
Additions (contributions, investment activity, etc.)
Releases / expenses
Ending balance
The report should tie directly to the general ledger and allow filtering by fiscal year, project, and net asset classification (with and without donor restrictions).
A Net Asset Rollforward is a required audit schedule under GAAP (ASC 958) and is consistently requested by auditors.
Auditors rely on this report to:
Reconcile beginning and ending net asset balances
Validate activity throughout the year
Confirm proper classification between restricted and unrestricted funds
Review balances at the project/grant level to ensure compliance with donor intent
Financial Edge NXT does not provide this report natively. As a result, organizations must manually compile data from multiple reports (general ledger, project reports, and queries) to recreate a rollforward.
This results in:
Increased risk of error
Lack of a clear audit trail
Significant manual effort
Delays during the audit process
Provides an audit-ready report directly from the system
Reduces manual reconciliation and audit preparation time
Improves accuracy and transparency
Aligns reporting with standard nonprofit audit requirements
This is a core reporting requirement for nonprofit organizations and a common need during every audit. Providing a standard Net Asset Rollforward by project would significantly improve audit readiness and eliminate a widespread manual workaround.
