Voiding Invoice That was Entered Without Having Scanned Documets Deleted

An invoice was entered, but turns out we no longer need to pay the invoice. Example an invoice was received to pay for a service but 6 months later we find out the service was never provided. We want to keep the paper trail, but since so much time has passed. Being able to void the transaction without having the documents deleted would be helpful. I think the only option available now is to delete the transaction which also deletes the scanned documents.
