"Full support for applying applications

"Full support for applying applications automatically will be available in a future release."

Adding a line item is a basic AR function, why would it be available in a future release? I am trying to create an invoice in this AR module, without going in the database view but it seems to be blocked for, what seems to be, a basic invoice creation function. Am I missing something.
