I first learned Blackbaud FE before NXT and when we switched to NXT we were assured that we could still use the database view just like before. I have since learned that some aspects are quicker on webview, and have adjusted accordingly for invoice entry, printing checks, cash receipts, and many others. However, Journal Entries are slower, clumsier, and super frustrating in NXT view. Until recently I could still enter them in database view, so I didn't worry about the NXT option. But now that database view is unavailable for JEs, I'm finding how very inefficient the webview is. At first I thought it was our slow internet, and I was happy when about a month ago the upgrade to fiber internet was completed. But that didn't change my issues. Webview lost the ability to quickly tab, type, tab, copy with F2, tab to the new line, and continue. I could fly through my JEs without ever lifting my hands from the keyboard. Now for each individual row I have to painstakingly type, wait for the suggestion, use the mouse to click the correct suggestion, get to the right column, wait 3 seconds for NXT to catch up, then type the amount or description, wait again. If I don't wait long enough, it will delete part or all of what I typed so that I have to start over again. Then I can click on the next row with the mouse, return to the keyboard, etc. It sounds petty, but when I have over 50 JEs to enter it's no laughing matter. Database view didn't have lag time. It didn't lose or delete what I typed. It takes me more than twice as long and a lot more patience to enter JEs in webview. PLEASE return the database view as an option!!!!!!
Check out Journal Entry Batch Creator Excel Add-In. The Journal Entry Batch Creator add-in is an application built by Blackbaud and is available in Microsoft's Office Store. You can use this to enter transactions in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet which you can then import and submit as a new journal entry batch to Financial Edge NXT. This integration enables flexible data entry (in bulk) and saves time, especially when entering similar data.
